The BMW X5 M

The design of the BMW X5 M unites power and exclusivity. From the generously proportioned kidney grill with large air intakes to the characteristic M gills and its impressive silhouette, every inch of this vehicle has been designed with sports performance in mind. A precise V-shape extends from the bonnet via the front apron to the road, lowering the visual centre of gravity and thus creating a characterful expression of the vehicle’s dynamic on-road attributes. Powerful struts are braced against the arrow-shaped bonnet and draw attention to the wheels to create a lasting impression of high performance and exclusivity.

By merging the precision of a sports car with the generous spaciousness of a Sports Activity Vehicle, the BMW X5 M brings together two worlds so effortlessly it’s as though they’ve always been united. As a result passengers are free to enjoy the unique feeling of dynamic sports performance without compromising on luxurious head and legroom. And there’s plenty of room for luggage too, with storage capacity extending to an impressive maximum of 1,750 litres.

Adaptive Drive comprises active roll stabilisation and Dynamic Drive and Electronic Damper Control (EDC). In conjunction with the M-specific set-up – 10 mm lower suspension and stiffer support springs – Adaptive Drive provides unsurpassed dynamics, comfort and safety. Body roll in the BMW X5 M is reduced and steering behaviour and the load alteration effect are optimised.

Remarkable agility and high stability especially when accelerating out of corners thanks to Dynamic Performance Control. Together with the intelligent four-wheel drive system xDrive, Dynamic Performance Control delivers flexible drive-power distribution for extreme cornering performance. The controlled variable distribution of power between the front and rear axle maximises agility and improves traction. When entering a corner, the torque on the outer wheel is increased to provide impressive control and high directional stability.

The M Dynamic Mode in Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) allows the BMW X5 M to achieve unsurpassed cornering speeds and controlled drifting. In this mode the point at which DSC intervenes to stabilise the vehicle is significantly delayed which increases drive slip for both longitudinal and transverse dynamics at all speed levels. This does not impact on safety, however: it is just a means to increase driving pleasure.

Effortless agility when parking, direct responsiveness and stability at higher speeds. M Servotronic in the BMW X5 M delivers the right amount of power assistance for every driving situation. The power assist progressively decreases when the vehicle speeds up, ensuring greater stability, improved precision and smoother vehicle behaviour.
Direct power and superb responsiveness in every driving situation. The standard M Sports automatic transmission sets sporting standards thanks to extremely quick gear changes. In manual mode, shift times are incredibly short across all six gears, which impressively minimises the interruption of power and improves acceleration. The M shift paddles on the steering wheel can be used at any time. For those all-important fractions of a second.

World premiere: as soon as you start the highly efficient EU5 engine, it becomes unmistakably clear that the first M TwinPower Turbo with 555 hp is not just impressive on paper. Its more than 126 hp per litre output sets standards while the patented cross-bank exhaust manifold and two Twin Scroll turbochargers guarantee maximum power flow and optimum transfer of exhaust gas energy to the turbocharger rotors. As a result, the M TwinPower Turbo unit boasts faster turbocharger response than any other Turbo engine in the world. With high torque of 680 Nm that remains constant over an extremely wide rev range, from 1,500 to 5,650 rpm, this is an astonishingly potent machine.

Although the 555 hp is distributed between all four wheels, the intelligent all-wheel drive system has been especially set up in the BMW X5 M with a rear-wheel drive bias to provide typical M driving characteristics. This means that, depending on the situation, less drive is directed to the front axle which enables controlled drifting for the first time in an all-wheel drive vehicle. In extremely dynamic driving situations, the vehicle can also be steered with the accelerator.

The high-performance brake system fitted as standard on the BMW X5 M provides you with unlimited driving comfort whatever the situation. One touch of the brake pedal is all that is needed for the high-performance brakes to respond with perfect precision via the black enamelled aluminium brake callipers. The generously-dimensioned inner-vented brakes suppress the thrust of the BMW X5 M to record levels - with fixed-calliper 395-mm brakes on the front axle and floating-calliper 385-mm brakes on the rear axle.
